Getting started

Open Handler and follow the short onboarding. There's nothing to sign up for. If you'd like to explore first, you can load sample documents from Settings and remove them later.

Scanning

A receipt didn't scan cleanly

• Lay the receipt flat in good, even light, and fill the frame.
• Long receipts read better scanned in one pass than photographed in pieces.
• Items Handler isn't sure about appear in Needs Review, where you can correct them.

A category is wrong

Tap the item and choose the right category. Handler will never overwrite a category you've picked.

Sending receipts from other apps

Use the share sheet in Mail, Files or Photos and choose Handler. You can share text or a single image at a time.

Importing statements

Download a statement from your bank's website in CSV, OFX or QFX format, then choose Import transactions in Handler. You'll see a preview before anything is saved, and transactions you've already imported are skipped automatically.

If a CSV file won't import, check that it includes a date, a description and an amount column. Handler never needs your banking username or password.

Reminders and widgets

I'm not getting reminders

Open the Settings app, tap Notifications, then Handler, and make sure Allow Notifications is on. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone, so they work without an internet connection.

Adding a widget

Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Handler. Choose Review, Upcoming deadlines or Upcoming renewals. Widgets never display amounts or balances.

Siri and Shortcuts

Say “Scan a receipt in Handler” or “Show upcoming in Handler”. You'll also find Handler's actions in the Shortcuts app.

Your data

Can I move my data to a new iPhone?

Not currently. To keep it private, Handler's encrypted database is excluded from iCloud and device backups, and its key never leaves your iPhone. Records can't be restored onto another device, so keep the original receipts for anything important, such as warranties.

How do I delete everything?

Delete the Handler app. This removes its database and documents from your iPhone. There's no copy anywhere else.

What is Private Cloud Compute?

An optional setting, off by default, that lets Handler use Apple's privacy-preserving cloud to categorise items the on-device model couldn't. Only text is sent, never images or amounts. You'll find it in Handler's Settings.

Requirements

Handler requires an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence. It's available in English.
